she smiled in a big way, the way a girl like that smiles
when the world is hers and she held your eyes
out in the breezeway down by the shore in the lazy summer
and she pulled you in, and she bit your lip, and she made you hers
she looked deep into you as you lay together quiet in the grasp of dusk and summer
but you've already lost
when you only had barely enough to hang on
and she combed your hair, and she kissed your teeth
and she made you better than you'd been before
she told you bad things you wished you could change in the lazy summer
and she told you, laughing down to her core, so she would not cry as she lay in your lap
she said "nobody here can live forever, quiet in the grasp of dusk and summer"
but you've already lost
when you only had barely enough to hang on
she said, "no one is alone the way you are alone"
and you held her looser than you would have if you ever could have known
some things tie your life together, slender threads and things to treasure
days like that should last and last and last
but you've already lost
when you only had barely enough of her to hang on | | |
| CAL FREAKIN ROCKS!

So yeah, this weekend was Bridges Senior Weekend at Cal; they fly you
up there for free and they serve you free food and entertain you.
Good deal aint it? So yeah starting with thursday...I took the
math test (which i probably died on =( ) ) at lunchtime so i could get
to the airport in time for my 4:20 flight to berkeley. Of course
Chu's freakin slow and he finally comes pick me up at like...2?
Haha Okay, so at the airport we get our tickets and
checkin. Chu gets stopped by security cuz he looks like a
terrorist and they pat him down and wave the metal detector all over
him. So we camped out in the Southwest terminal until our
flight. I sat next to chu and this guy who was an IRS auditor and
he kept talking about business crap. So yeah we landed in Oakland
and our pilot was crazy, he made sharp turns on the ground at high
speeds...i didn't even know planes could make such sharp turns.
At the airport we were greeted by a bunch of Cal ppl and then taken
onto campus where we set down our luggage and went to Haas
Pavilion. Checked in with the REACH crew and watched some pretty
bad bands play haha. Henry from rosemead came up to me saying,
"Oh i remember you, you're from Monrovia, you play tennis." That
was cool we had 3 fellow tennis players with us from Rosemead and
Baldwin Park. Goes to prove that tennis players are smart
haaha. Oh yeah, also ate pizza. Then one of the mentors
took me and a couple students to explore the streets around
campus. The date was 4/20 so you can imagine what was going
on. Later on we went to the game night in the Pauley Ballroom,
Chu went to watch Coach Carter; so i went over to the dance room and
watched poker for a lil bit. Then i decided i had nothing to lose
so went and danced a lil bit. After that i went outside to the
balcony and met Cailin (if you're reading this, im sorry if i
misspelled your name, at least i remembered it though =) Yea so i
talked to her and a few other guys that i don't remember their
names. Then i went back in and found michelle and talked to her
for a bit. I thought about doing kareoke but decided against
it. So afterward when everyone was finding their hosts, ours (me
and Michael Yu) were nowhere to be found. Ours were supposted to
be Ryan Viernes and Sean Park, but nobody had any clue who there
were. So they stuck us with Raymond La and Felix Wong, and by
some miracle they went to Rosemead along with the tennis players so
they knew each other. So we got back to the dorm and then our
hosts decided to go get food. We went to a chinese restaurant
that happened to be open at 2 in the morning and i got a combo fried
rice. Came back to the dorms and ate and watched an Apath
commerical (apath = asian pacific americans theme house). It was
hella funny making fun of rocky training routine. After that i
just showered and tried to go to sleep, but Ray blasted his music until
5 am so i ended up with only 2 hours of sleep. Day 2- Woke up at
7 and got on the van at 8 to go to McDonalds. We pretty much
invaded the place and then went off to the stereotypes workshop.
Can't really discuss the topics, but it brought up some interesting
points. Then we went to another workshop where we did a skit
about college life. AFter that was lunch and we ate hot
dogs. I put wayyy too much sauercraut on mine and it tasted
horrible. After that we did another workshop, well it was more of
a speaker, and at this point i kinda dozed off from lack of
sleep. Afterward we went on the business campus tour, but the
guide, Irene, kinda scared me outta taking bussiness after describing
the difficutlty and competitiveness. Anyway after that i went and
bought a shirt and a CAL decal for my car. Then we went to the
taiwanese restaurant and had some good food. AFter we were done
eating we played some cool games that involved clapping and such.
We were also singing Spice Girls songs. LOL So after that we went
and did a scavenger hunt in San Francisco. It was more like
individual challenges rather than a scavenger hunt. We did some
fun stuff like build a human pyramid, run like chickens around random
people, lick fire hydrants, stare at ppl eating, re-enact the titanic
scene, do the electric slide, sing an nsync song and a bunch of other
random stuff...so much fun but it was soo cold. Then we went to
some marine place where it had bleachers and we did skits there.
Some ppl came up with some really funny stuff like team rocket from
pokemon vs godzilla. We did one that involved the sixth sense,
mission impossible and some other movie that eludes me right now.
So after that we went to the apath social and played another game in
which we collected stuff from ppl around the room. Finally got
back and ready for bed at like 4. Third Day- Woke up and
went to Deutche hall and dropped off luggage. Came back to Ida
Sproul and watched apath perform shows for us. They showed their
commercial as well as a skit of typical asian stereotypes, such as the
fob...it was pretty funny. After that they sent us off to cal
day. I stuck around and thanked Anna, John Michael, Thien and
some of the other mentors for the time they put in. After that i
called ryan to see if he could pick me up at the airport that night,
but it turns out that he was also at CAL! So i went and found him
in the football stadium watching spring practice. Talked with he
and his dad for a little while and then came back to cal day and bought
some food. After that it was off to the airport. Flight
back was fast and Thanks to Steve for picking me up. Got back at
like 7 and showered. Then i went out with wes and ju and hung out
and ate and stuff...our typical thing...Came back home and started
typing this because i loved my weekend. And here are some of the
limited pictures i have as most my other photos are waiting to be
developed.

In the air looking back down on a wonderful weekend!
